BUMP!

A math game is coming home called Bump!  The children have been taught how to play.  I have sent two Bump game boards home... one for counting by 10s and one for counting by 5's.

To play the game you need one of the boards, 2 dice, and 2 sets of 10 markers.  You could use two different coins (10 each) for the counters or cut up paper squares.

You will be amazed at how well they can skip count!

You can always make your own Bump board on a piece of paper using heart words, too!

Field Trip Chaperones

The following parents will be going with us to the MN Zoo to help chaperone the students:
Sadie Iverson
Jennie Hicks
Kerri McDonald
Steve Carlson
Greenhagen
Novacek
Chris LeClaire
Robb Nosbush
Melissa Mulder
Molly Pool
Bloomquist

A note was sent home with your child last week.  If seeing your name on this list is a surprise to you then it didn't make it.  Sorry!

The children are starting to look like first graders!  And we are working hard on acting like first graders, too!  This was a fun graph to make yesterday about their teeth!

This week we were studying the letter Zz.

A great big THANK YOU to Melissa Mulder for coming in and
doing movement activities with us today.  We did a 20 session of

Z is for Zumba

that included warm ups, excellent activity, cool downs and even breathing practice.

Not only was it FUN, but the kids had some amazing moves!

REAL Reading and Writing

It is amazing what a literacy learner can do when they set their mind to it.  One of our students who is an emergent reader (level A) wrote this note up on the board today:
I watched the child write it and it was done without any help from anyone.  Off  course, last week he saw my note up on the board that said the same, but that had been long erased.

Anytime you can find a REAL reason for children to read and write, they will excel.

Real reasons to read:
menus
signs outside
to learn about an interest
Is ______ on the grocery list already?  (Have them check for you)
Read you a story while you are driving

Real reasons to write:
add an item to the grocery list
Keep Out signs for bedroom doors
I love you notes to family and friends
requests to have a treat  (You ask them to put it in writing so you don't forget)
Writing words you see in the car

W is for Window!

f

We read "The Hello, Goodbye Window".  It is a GREAT book, especially if you are looking for  a Grandparent/family book.  I highly recommend it.

After reading the book we made our own 'Hello, Goodbye' windows.  The are on display outside our classroom.

Can't Keep those Animals out of the Mud!

Mrs. Wishy Washy tries, but those animals always find the mud again when she is done.

Oh, Lovely Mud!

Tuesday, April 1, 2014

Oh Lovely Mud!

Yes, it is mud season.  And No, we don't usually let your children play in it.

BUT.....

today your child got to play in the mud!  It is Ww week and one of our favorite Ww characters is

Mrs. Wishy Washy!

She tries and tries to keep her farm animals clean and out of the mud.  (By time this Spring season is over you may very well know how she feels!)

So today we finger-painted mud puddles with....  MUD!  (April Fools!)

Here is how it looked:
